Becoming a mother isn’t supposed to be a death sentence for a woman’s sensuality. (Heck, most women couldn’t become mothers without it! 😂) Motherhood is an initiation into a new dimension of sensations that expands upon the many possibilities for playful, feminine self expression. After all, mothers are the ultimate creatrixes!
Yet our culture is still uncomfortable with the seemingly mutual exclusivity of the sacred and the sensuous in one female body. Sex creates babies, but once the duty of procreation is complete, mothers are subconsciously expected to dismiss their bodies and shelve their sensual desires. This dichotomy creates a profound and unhealthy disconnect in how most mothers feel about their bodies after having children and about themselves in general. (Good moms couldn’t possibly be sexy moms, too? And even if they could, I don’t feel sexy in this new mom bod. And pleasure? Who’s got time for that??)
I say it is time that we dismantle this oppressive narrative of motherhood that is still so pervasive in our society.
I believe in a life of women being passionately in love with their bodies at all stages of life. I feel that the best way for women to experience sensual embodiment is through a playful relationship with their natural rhythms. And I want to help mothers to reclaim this connection through meaningful rituals and a sisterhood that honors this wild and enchanting heroine's journey.
So I ask, what makes YOU come alive, mama? 💖
